Halloween can be a fun and festive time of year for many. This might include decorations, candy, parties in the home, trick-or-treaters, etc.
With this in mind, there may be things to take into consideration to make it a happy (and safe!) time for your cat(s) as well.
- Be sure any decorations are not able to get stuck around your cat’s neck, anything to be chewed and digested, or kicked off and broken. One endearing feature of cats is their sense of curiosity that sometimes needs supervision. 😉
- Hopefully your cat will not be interested in eating or playing with any candy ready to delight your trick or treaters (or you!), but keep an eye out on its accessibility, especially chocolate as it is toxic to cats.
- If you have guests over, it might be a good idea to keep your cat(s) in a private room for their comfort, especially if they are not as socially motivated with others, as well as having a barrier to have no route of unintended escape while your guests come and go.
- Trick or treaters can be fun to have come to your door to see their costumes and give them their prized candy, but it can be not only stressful for your cat with the noise and activity, but also a way to slip outside accidentally when the door is opened. Consider the previous bullet point about giving them a safe and quiet sanctuary in a secure room during the festivities.
Kitty Love Pet Sitting wishes you and your kitties a happy and safe Meow-lo-ween!
