Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your beloved pets!

It’s a day we all cherish as it reminds us of keeping LOVE in our life which includes the unconditional love of the pets we love so dearly.

Loving our pets also means keeping them safe from everyday household dangers that may be making their way into your home on this lovely holiday.

Namely, CHOCOLATE and FLOWERS!  (other things we LOVE, right?!)

Did you know that chocolate and certain types of flowers are toxic to cats?  I did not always know these things myself so I realize the importance of enlightening other pet parents.

Chocolate

Chocolate is a favorite gift to give and receive at Valentine’s Day. After all, it’s divinely delicious! But for cats, it can be quite dangerous if ingested. So please be sure to keep your chocolates in a place like a cabinet or drawer where your curious kitty cannot accidentally take a few bites and become sick.

Flowers

Flowers are wildly popular on Valentine’s Day. I absolutely love flowers – the natural beauty brings joy to my soul. Although roses are a favorite for Valentine’s Day, you may be lucky to receive other types of flowers for someone thinking outside the box. ;0)  There are certain flowers that can be toxic to your cat and it’s important for you to know which ones as I was surprised to know that one of my all time favorites (tulips!) is one of them!

Find out more about which flowers are toxic to your cat.

I was pet sitting a cat client one time whose owner had an arrangement with Lilies in it. Although she had it on her mantle, seemingly safely away from cat’s reach, over the course of a few days, the Lilies started to drop on the floor while dying. I immediately removed the flower arrangement into a closed room, cleaned the area, and kept a close eye on kitty. Possible disaster averted!

Your pets will appreciate your keeping them safe from these holiday goodies that bring us humans joy.

Enjoy the love of your cat today and show them how special they truly are!

Love and Purrs,

Amy
